Music Ministry

Sacred music is woven into the life of worship at First Presbyterian Church. It is not background or decoration. It shapes how we listen, how we pray, and how we return to what matters when we leave the sanctuary. Week by week, it helps the congregation settle in and pay attention.

For some, participation begins simply by singing from the pew. For others, it grows into something more active. FPC offers several ways to be part of that work, from children’s choirs and youth music to the Chancel Choir and Handbell Choir. No one has to arrive as a polished musician. What matters is a willingness to offer what you have.

Chancel Choir
Adults

Directed by Mark Woodcock

The Chancel Choir sings for the 11:00 a.m. service each Sunday and joins with orchestra or brass ensembles for major services throughout the year. Rehearsals are held on Thursday evenings from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Auditions are not required, though the ability to match pitch and some music-reading experience are helpful.

Handbell Choir
High School Age and Up

Directed by Mark Woodcock

The Handbell Choir prepares and presents music for worship twice each semester, fall and spring, using a five-octave set of Schulmerich handbells. Rehearsals are held on Tuesdays at 2:45 p.m. Some ability to read music is essential. Ringers who are available only for part of a season are welcome to discuss participation with the director.

Children’s Choirs
Kindergarten through Fifth Grade

Directed by Lindsay Anne McCall

Children’s choirs meet as part of the Pathfinders and ROCKstars programming on Sunday evenings from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Children in kindergarten through second grade and third through fifth grade each have their own choir. Singing together is one of the ways children grow into worship at FPC and come to know that they belong in it.

Youth Music
Sixth through Twelfth Grade

DIRECTED BY LINDSAY ANNE MCCALL and MARK WOODCOCK

The Youth Music Ensemble meets on predetermined Sunday nights from 7:15-7:45pm to strum, pluck, slide, and sing through a variety of much loved sacred songs from the hymnal and beyond. They help to lead music in worship services throughout the year.
