Jerrie Dearborn

FPC Presbyterian Women: Honorary Life Membership 2022

She is a creator, a server, a doer, a caring and thoughtful person. Jerrie Dearborn is that person whom we are honoring today with Honorary Life Membership in Presbyterian Women.
Prior to joining First Presbyterian, Jerrie was a member of Westminister Presbyterian where she served as deacon and Elder, advisor for Youth Fellowship and ringer in the handbell choir.

Jerrie Dearborn, PW HLM Recipient, with friends and family, Sunday, March 13, 2022.

At First Presbyterian she continued with her Elder responsibilities. She was one of the founders of Stephen Minister classes. She also was a member of the Handbell Choir. She was
Chair of the All-Church Retreat for Montreat and leader of Disciple Bible Study. Jerrie was Rick Brand Sunday School Treasurer, Social Chair, and on the Nominating Committee. She chaired the Christian Education Committee and hosted the Family Promise guests at the church.

She has led Circle 8 and currently serves as treasurer of her circle. Visiting homebound members has been a faithful duty and pleasure for her. She participates with the Knitters of First Presbyterian. One of Jerrie’s favorite activities and skills is quilting. Most recently she has used this skill to instigate making quilts for new Habitat homeowners. She hosts a weekly quilters’ gathering at her home and is also teaching this talent to a neighborhood young girl.

The following are a few of Jerrie’s community involvements: she founded the book club at Capitol Towers, served on board of Property Owners Association in West Jefferson, where
they own a mountain cabin, volunteers for Meals on Wheels, and financially supports and is an advocate for Loaves and Fishes, SPCA and Habitat for Humanity.

Jerrie taught Math at Broughton High School, and following retirement opened a math tutoring business in her home.

In Summary and using the words of the one who is closest to her, “She continues to amaze me with her creativity, persistence, and good humor in the face of adversity, and her thoughtful, caring nature and commitment to things in which she believes.” We are happy to introduce Jerrie Dearborn for Honorary Life Membership in Presbyterian!
