FPC Staff Show & Tell: Scott Sommerfeld

Staff Member Since:

2018

Main Job Duties:

By definition, a facility manager is responsible for making sure that buildings and their services meet the needs of the people that work in them. Besides the typical building repairs and maintenance at FPC, mix in the church grounds, add a dash of sexton duties, and a splash of its mechanical systems and voila – you have a unique recipe of his daily responsibilities and activities. Whether he’s giving the walls in the Stock building a fresh coat of paint or replacing the lights in Memorial Hall, you know he’s the man for the job and he’ll get it done – before you knew there was even a problem!

Favorite Part of Job:

Scott’s background in business didn’t allow him get his hands dirty very often. And as a talented woodworker on the side, he gets more enjoyment out of hands-on tasks than sending files to the printer.

When Not at Work:

If he’s not at work, then he’s at his workshop at home. If he’s not in his workshop, you probably won’t find him! That’s because he’s riding his BMW motorcycle around through some small rural NC town. He and his wife Kathy enjoy taking trips on their bikes (Yes, she has her own!) and have made it through the Outer Banks of North Carolina, Virginia and who knows where they will end up next…Nova Scotia?

Most Memorable Moment at FPC:

Scott will be the first person to say there is never a dull moment at work, especially on Fridays. There’s plenty of real-life stories to back it up! His most memorable moment thus far may have something to do with an event during his first month on the job. In short, the sewage lift station failed and overflowed. And cleanup followed. And a new pair of shoes. 😉
