Weekly Mission Spotlight: Wake Relief Food Pantry

Established in 1975, as an outreach ministry of Christ Episcopal Church, Wake Relief is an all-volunteer emergency food pantry committed to alleviating hunger in Wake County. Located at 616 Tucker Street in the basement of St. Saviour’s Center, Wake Relief provides nutritious food to families and individuals in need, once a month.

Over 100 volunteers sort and shelve food, serve clients, and offer food drive information and support. Wake Relief also partners with The Interfaith Food Shuttle to receive bi-weekly deliveries of recovered perishable food in order to supplement the non-perishable staples households receive. FPC regularly refers families helped through the Friendship Fund to Wake Relief for a couple of weeks’ worth of food. Because of COVID-19, families do not currently need a referral to obtain food. All assistance is provided curbside on Mondays and Tuesdays from 1pm-3pm.

One-third of all FPC shares collected are delivered faithfully every month to Wake Relief by Jane McMillan. Additionally, Jane Anderson serves as the FPC member-at-large on the Wake Relief Board of Directors.
They are currently looking for hard-working and dependable shift volunteers. Volunteer for one 2-hour shift per month on Mondays or Tuesdays from 1:00 – 3:00 pm. Interested persons should contact Julie Nau at julienau1948@gmail.com.
