Weekly Mission Focus: Wheels4Hope

Wheels4Hope, a faith based car program,

started at West Raleigh Presbyterian Church in 2000 to address the affordable transportation needs for low-income citizens, and help struggling families in the Triangle, Triad and Western regions of North Carolina find reliable transportation.

The primary mission of Wheels4Hope is to repair donated vehicles and sell them as Program Cars to qualified recipients who are referred by Partner Agencies. Program Cars are vehicles that are in sound mechanical condition and are valued in the $2,000-4,000 range.

Believing in the principle of ownership and with a commitment to partnership, Wheels4Hope requires recipients to pay $500 for their car and be responsible for title and transfer fees and provides each program car with a 6-month warranty.

Significant support comes from volunteer mechanics and partner garages, as well as individual donors, congregations, corporations and foundations who understand that reliable transportation is an important component for self-sufficiency.

The FPC Mission Budget has provided financial support to Wheels4Hope since 2010. Over the last 5 years, FPC members have donated 11 cars, and we frequently send volunteers on our FPC Day of Service.
