Weekly Mission Focus: Church in the Woods

“Whatever you do for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you do for me.”

Matthew 25:40

Church in the Woods is a non-denominational Christian outreach ministry for the poor and homeless that meets for worship, fellowship, and lunch every Sunday morning at FPC in 124 S. Salisbury from 11:30 am until 1:30 pm.

Church in the Woods (CITW) was born out of prayer teams going out onto the streets to pray for and with the homeless population. Alice McGee, Director of CITW, visits the homeless along with volunteer team members. Teams explore wooded areas, streets, and under bridges to locate people in need. They provide clothing, sleeping bags, toiletries, medical teams, and food throughout Wake County. CITW helps people connect with community assistance programs and low cost housing.

As advocates, they work with our local governments in creating programs and policies, and helping change laws that are discriminating to the homeless and poor. In Matthew 25:40, Jesus states “Whatever you do for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you do for me”.

CITW operates by those words and is made up of dedicated volunteers who want to touch the lives of those in need. No one is beyond the reach of God, no matter how lost or broken. If you would like to learn more about CITW visit www.churchinthewoods.net or stop by 124 S. Salisbury one Sunday for worship.
