Here is what Jane has to say about Stephen Ministry:

I believe Stephen Ministry really helps people in the caring relationships that are formed- that is the key to supporting people going through difficulties. We are not there to give advice or make judgments about a situation, merely to listen and offer support. I would recommend this program for both those who are interested in joining this unique group by committing to the training, and also for those who may be facing hardships of any kind and would like to meet with a Stephen Minister.

“Kathy Hopkins had talked with me some about Stephen Ministry and I felt that this year it was something I could do, and wanted to do since I am kind of a one-on-one sort of person. I learned so much about mental health issues, grief and loss, and how to be there for people going through a hard time, as we all sometimes are. There is an emphasis on the spiritual underpinnings and knowing that we are not alone in our efforts to be helpful. We have our faith in God, a power much greater than any of us. I was especially impressed with the very strict confidentiality that is kept by everyone in the program. Those seeking a Stephen Minister need not worry that anything about their personal information will be shared. I knew Stephen Ministry would be a good experience; I am just getting started learning how wide reaching its effects can be- a great program!”
