STAFF MEMBER SINCE:
MAIN JOB DUTIES:
Chances are, many of you may not have had the pleasure of meeting Judy. This is because as FPC’s Parish Associate for Senior Adult Ministry, her role is part-time but always on the go! It wasn’t until last month that she obtained her own office at the church (Room 103 in the Edge building). Prior to joining our staff, she worked at White Memorial Presbyterian Church for 5 years. Her main occupation is the visitation and care of FPC’s older adults, including but not limited to, programs for the Congregational Care & Support Committee. Occasionally she teaches for adult classes and PW Bible Study, but her most meaningful and essential task is pastoral care and visitation for our members at home, in the hospital or in care facilities. This allows her to, in her own words, “See how God is at work in people’s lives and this community.”
FAVORITE PART OF JOB:
Judy’s role can be challenging when trying to keep in touch with those whose needs change over time or unexpectedly. But the most enjoyable moments are listening to them share life stories and help them grow into new phases of life while keeping faith in God.
WHEN NOT AT WORK:
As you can see from her bucket list item, she loves to travel and when asked where, she’ll enthusiastically answer, “Anywhere!” She also enjoys reading novels by 19th and 20th century British writers, and flower gardening from which to make beautiful bouquets. She is married to Jim Peterson, a doctor at Duke Cardiology of Raleigh. They have two sons that live out of state and an Irish Wheaten Terrier named “Tip”.
MOST MEMORABLE TIME AT WORK:
Believe it or not, Judy’s most memorable moment was her first week on the job! In February 2018, the youth of FPC put together a special ‘Staff Olympics’ to help raise funds for their annual mission trip. She learned in a very short amount of time from the instant camaraderie that took place, that she was going to enjoy her new co-workers and make some new friends!
CALL ON JUDY!
Judy hopes you will continue to call on her for support. She looks forward to caring for those who have loved and cared for church their entire lives and now need care from the church themselves. You can reach out to her any time by phone at (919) 821-5750 (x2103) or email at email@example.com.
