FPC Month of Service

January 2022: Month of Service

With rising COVID numbers and in an effort to keep everyone safe, we will again embark on a Month of Service during January, rather than hold an Annual Day of Service for FPC Serves on MLK Day.

Because of the pandemic, it is not possible for us to gather safely as a large group or to go in small pods to help our mission partners clean and organize. Several big service projects planned in the community for MLK weekend have been cancelled because of the rapidly spreading variant. Instead, individuals or family units can complete their own acts of service and share the results with the congregation.

Send us your pics!

Take pictures of yourself, your family or your pandemic pod in action, and send it in with a description of your service project to Kathy Johnson at kjohnson@fpcraleigh.org »

We will publish the pictures in the February newsletter.

Check out this list of service ideas or feel free to create your own service project:

Green Chair Project: Healthy Home Challenge

Assemble a healthy Bundle for Green Chair Project’s January Healthy Home Challenge. Put together a bundle in a small trash can, bucket or laundry basket filled with:

  • Roll of paper towels
  • Roll of Toilet Paper
  • Dish Soap
  • Pack of Sponges
  • Antibacterial Spray or Wipes
  • Glass Cleaner Spray
  • Hand Sanitizer
  • Hand Soap

Drop-off bundles in the Edge Lobby!

Help a Neighbor

Looking out for our elderly or homebound neighbors is important. There are many people that may live alone or not know who to turn to for assistance when it comes to landscaping or lawn maintenance, especially if they’ve had a recent surgery or health related issue. Rake, weed, or mow a neighbor’s yard as your act of service this month.

Create Your Own Service Project

Do you love pets? Volunteer at the local animal shelter. Do you love nature? Create a clean up group to pick up trash in the neighborhood or community. Be creative! There are many ways to give your time and talents and show your support. We look forward to seeing your ideas come to life!
